Algerian English Ivy is a popular choice for container gardens, hanging baskets, and indoor houseplants. Its lush, trailing vines cascade beautifully over the edges of pots, making it perfect for patios, balconies, and bright indoor spaces. Algerian English Ivy - Fun Fact:
Native to North Africa, Algerian English Ivy has symbolized lasting friendship, loyalty, and eternal life since ancient times. It was historically used in Greek and Roman celebrations, woven into wreaths and garlands to represent fidelity and long-lasting bonds, a tradition still carried forward in gardens and ceremonies today.

How to Grow and Care for Algerian English Ivy:

  • Sunlight – Adaptable to various light conditions, from full sun to deep shade. In hot climates, partial shade is preferred to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Soil – Prefers well-draining soil; tolerates a range of soil types, including clay and sandy soil.
  • Watering – Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged until roots are fully developed; drought-tolerant once established.
  • Spacing – Plant 12-18 inches apart for spreading coverage.
  • Growth & Maintenance – Pruning is only needed to control spread and maintain shape; trim as desired.
  • Cold Climate Care – In regions where temperatures fall below 10°F (-12°C), consider mulching around the base to protect roots and placing plants in sheltered locations. For areas with harsh winters, growing Algerian Ivy in containers allows for easy relocation indoors during colder months.
  • Indoor Growing – Algerian Ivy thrives indoors in bright, indirect light and should be watered moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Pest Prevention – Naturally resistant to deer, rabbits, and most common garden pests.

Common Questions About Algerian English Ivy:

Can Algerian Ivy tolerate low light conditions?  Yes! It grows well in full sun to full shade. In hot climates, partial shade is preferred to prevent leaf scorch, while in cooler areas, it thrives in deep shade. Indoors, it does well in bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions.

Is Hedera Algerian Ivy suitable for container planting and hanging baskets?  Absolutely! Its trailing vines make it perfect for containers and hanging baskets, adding a touch of greenery to patios, balconies, and indoor spaces.

Can Algerian Ivy be grown indoors as a houseplant?  Yes! It is commonly grown as an indoor plant, thriving in bright, indirect light. It requires occasional pruning to maintain shape and should be watered when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Does Algerian English Ivy require frequent pruning?  Pruning is only needed to control growth. Trim as desired to maintain shape, prevent overgrowth, or encourage bushier growth.

Is Hedera Algerian English Ivy safe for pets if ingested?  No, Hedera Algerian Ivy is toxic to pets if ingested. It is best to keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.

Does Hedera Algerian English Ivy attract insects or pests?  It is generally pest-resistant but may occasionally attract aphids or spider mites. Regular monitoring and occasional rinsing can help keep pests away.

Is Hedera English Ivy deer or rabbit resistant?  Yes! Its thick, leathery leaves make it unappealing to deer and rabbits, making it an excellent low-maintenance option for gardens.

How fast does Hedera Algerian Ivy spread?  It spreads quickly, making it an excellent choice for ground cover, climbing, or filling in bare garden areas.

Can Hedera Algerian Ivy tolerate cold weather?  Algerian Ivy is hardy in USDA Zones 7-11. In colder climates, where temperatures drop below 10°F (-12°C), it may not survive the winter outdoors. Gardeners in these regions often grow it as an annual or bring container plants indoors during the colder months.

Does Hedera Algerian Ivy require a trellis or support to climb?  It can climb walls, fences, and trellises using aerial rootlets but can also spread along the ground as a dense cover.

What is the best way to fertilize Hedera Algerian Ivy?  A balanced liquid fertilizer applied in spring and mid-summer will promote healthy growth.

My 75 year old hands appear softer and younger!
Avene Cicalfate Restorative Hand cream leaves my hands feeling very soft! A little goes a long way, I have had mine for a year. Soon I will be purchasing another tube. Yes, it is a little pricey for a hand cream, but does the job better then any other product I have used on my hands. Highly recommend this hand cream if you have dry, sensitive skin. It also has no added fragrance which I really appreciate!

Excellent product at a very good price. I will buy it again.
This is an excellent product at a fair price. The cream creates a barrier that protects the skin, while mosturizes it. leaves hands very soft, and it doesn't feel greasy. I know that this is a favorite brand (Avene) in France, and Amazon offers it at a very good price. I will buy it again, from Amazon. I bought it this year in Paris, and it was more expensive there.

Drying formula and smell bad
Smell so bad and made my hands dry instead of moisturizing. The formula is watery. Maybe it’s fake or expired I am not sure.

Obsessed. Soothing, effective, fragrance-free, incredibly healing
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I’ve been loving this so much I bought a second bottle after a few days of using it. It has all the skin soothing benefits of the tolerance lotion cleanser, but it’s also a really great cleanser. It’s almost not noticeable how good it is at cleansing because your skin doesn’t feel stripped after, but it takes things off really quickly. I was worried because it doesn’t foam a lot and it feels so nurturing — much like the tolerance lotion cleanser (which I use as a second cleanse when my skin needs a few days to recover from something like a derm office treatment) — but when I wash again with my favorite HG cleanser nothing extra comes off, and I tested it twice on waterproof eyeliner that I’d swiped on my forearm for an hour or so, the eyeliner dissolved and wiped off with two or three gentle swipes. It has a very emollient texture, so when you rub it against your skin it slips so easily you don’t realize it’s dissolving and taking things away because there is no friction. So it’s great at taking off makeup, it’s AMAZING at cleaning makeup brushes, and IT DOES NOT BURN MY EYES AT ALL. Also, it is FRAGRANCE-FREE… before I bought it I read a review complaining about smelling a citrus fragrance, that person either has some sort of brain tumor or something spilled on their bottle when it was in a warehouse because this is definitely a fragrance-free product. Prior to trying this, I had tried another cleanser that gave me weird acne hives all over my chest (never happened to me before) and I was struggling to heal the acne and the irritation. I noticed an immediate difference when I started using the tolerance cleanser on it; the fresh redness went away, the acne started healing, and the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation has been healing fast. So I’ve been using this on my body as well and it’s soothing and moisturizing in all the places where other things have been drying. I have mild rosacea and I hadn’t realized how irritated my skin was from the last thing I’d tried until after 5 days or so of using this my skin tone looked much more even and the stubborn PIH I have from a two-zit hormonal breakout a month ago finally looked dramatically lighter (as recently as the week before, I’d needed to cover them with high-coverage concealer). Because this doesn’t foam much, some people might not realize how well it’s cleaning… I encourage you to judge it based on how your skin looks and feels. Since it is very emollient though, I do think it’s important to use it with a face wash scrubber or washcloth just to ensure you’re getting some mild mechanical exfoliation and clearing away skin cells that could be trapping stuff in your pores. For this reason, I do wash my face with this twice so the first wash can get off makeup/debris/oil and then the second wash can really penetrate and clean my skin.

No Scent and Gentle
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I broke out in a case of Perioral Dermatitis recently and bought this product to help before I could see my doctor. Avene Tolerance facial cleanser has no scent and is very gentle on my skin. It didn’t burn when washing with this product, and even helped to slough off the dead skin around my lips. My face feels clean, not dry. I am still going to see my doc to get an RX for the inflammation, but I do believe this product helped to alleviate the dryness and tightness of my skin and lips. I’ve used other Avene products and I’m very happy with them. Even though these products are more expensive, to me they are well worth the money because they are much more gentle on the skin than any other products I’ve used. I will buy this product again just because of the fact that it’s so gentle. PS: at the time of purchase for this product, I also bought Avene’s Tolerance Control Skin Recovery Cream (you don’t need to use a lot of this one on your entire face), and Avene’s Cicalfate for lips. Between these 3 products, my lips and skin feel a lot better (however, I will still see my doctor because I have Crohn’s Disease and Perioral Dermatitis is considered an extra-intestinal side effect of Crohn’s).
